Post scraps on Orkut from your mobile phone

Orkut is not a very popular Social network in USA but it is a big thing in India and Brazil particularly. Orkut is the single biggest cause of decreasing productivity of employees in offices in these countries (citation needed). These social networks are rather creating a huge market for Firewalls because most schools use them so that students use internet and not misuse.

I will talk about social networks some other day, the news for today is that Orkut users in Brazil and India (two of Orkut biggest markets) can now post scraps from their mobile phones. They don’t even have to have an internet enabled mobile phone to do this because it is a SMS service.

The SMS service is fairly easy and it seems inspired from twitter. The first thing you have to do is register your cell phone number on Orkut which you can do by going on My Settings page and then clicking on Mobile tab. You will then have to set up your mobile phone number to receive and post SMS.

Now the crappy part is that two of the biggest networks, Airtel and Vodafone have been left out of this service in India while I can’t comment about the counterpart situation in Brazil.

More details are on the Orkut Help page.
